Kitchen Sneak Peek {T&H Kitchen Makeover}

The past six weeks or so have been absolute madness around our house with the kitchen makeover finally happening, but the end is near and I wanted to share some peeks with y’all!

In case you missed it, I decided it was time to update our outdated pickled oak kitchen after seven years and give it a new cabinet color, paint color, and update the fixtures.  You can find my design for the space here, and links to other parts of the project at the end of the post.

For the better part of June, this is what our kitchen and garage looked like.  Absolute madness, especially for two very OCD people.  I’ll have a full cabinet painting tutorial next month after the reveal, but (as I expected), this is definitely the biggest DIY project I’ve ever tackled.  37 drawer fronts/doors to spray and just the dim and a garage at about 939 squillion degrees to do it in.

To knock that part out as fast as I could, I left an hour or so early from work when I could and then took some Fridays off.  Luckily the husband had a few fishing trips alot of the weekends in June so that gave me two more full days to really hustle.

We’ve also tackled the god awful trim above the cabinets and got some beautiful white shiplap up on both of those walls, using the same process as our guest bedroom shiplap wall.  I sprayed the trim pieces this weekend and just need to put them up.

Since I had the kitchen dismantled, I went ahead and took the opportunity to fix the two broken doors that have driven me nuts for seven years.  I’ll have a little tutorial for those next month as well.

So here’s where we’re at on the to-do list:

  • Install new kitchen faucet and soap dispenser
  • Install new breakfast nook pendant
  • Reposition and install new kitchen pendant
  • Sand, prime, and paint front of bar
  • Sand, prime, and paint cabinet doors
  • Sand, prime, and paint cabinet facing
  • Remove old trim from above cabinets
  • Install shiplap above cabinets
  • Prime, paint, and install trim around shiplap
  • Clean up vintage door for laundry room
  • Have glass added to vintage door & install door
  • Add decal to vintage laundry room door

Everything is painted and back to normal, hallelujah!!  I finally got to the grocery store after six weeks and we finally got to make a real meal in here after six weeks and it felt awesome!  The kitchen looks taller, bigger, and so much cleaner than before and it’s amazing how much more our river rock backsplash pops now with the gray.

We are blown away every time we walk in here now and I am still caught off guard when I come home from work and see it.  I just sit and stare at it sometimes and the husband says it’s awesome almost every single day.  All of that work and all those hours are totally going to be worth it.  The full reveal is on track for August 1st and I cannot wait to show it to you guys!!
